Poneglyphs

Chapter poneglyphs to decrypt for rewards, and poneglyphs found on expeditions that hide clues.

Copied

There are two kinds of poneglyphs, and they work differently:

Chapter poneglyph Dropped poneglyph
Where you get it Fixed on an island, at a given chapter By chance during an expedition
How many One per poneglyph, each one unique They pile up, you can hold several
What decrypting it does A cipher to solve The same cipher, hiding an ancient text
What you win berries and experience, once A clue about a secret Den Den Mushi

Both show up in /poneglyph list.

Each chapter poneglyph sits on an island and becomes available once you reach a given chapter of that island. /poneglyph list shows the ones you discovered, with their island and chapter, and whether you already decrypted them. If none is there yet, keep exploring: they unlock as your adventure moves forward.

Decrypting one rewards you with berries and experience, once per poneglyph.

The text is written with a letter-substitution cipher: every letter is replaced by another one. Find which letter hides behind each symbol.

  1. Press Decrypt on a poneglyph you have not decrypted yet.
  2. Pick an encrypted letter, then Map Letter to the letter you think it stands for. The text updates as you go.
  3. Your Accuracy shows how much of the text is right.
  4. Stuck? Get hint gives you a clue about the text. Each new hint needs a higher accuracy to unlock.
  5. Submit once you think you are done. The poneglyph only counts as decrypted when your accuracy reaches 100%.

Reset clears your letters to start over, and Cancel stops the decryption.

  • You work on one poneglyph at a time. Finish or cancel it before starting another.
  • Your progress is kept for a while: if the session expires, start again from the poneglyph.
  • The cipher is your own: another player’s mapping will not match yours.

When your ship is accosted during an expedition, you sometimes find a poneglyph. An archaeologist in your crew makes these finds more likely as they level up.

Dropped poneglyphs pile up: the Poneglyph part of /poneglyph list shows how many you hold.

  1. Press Decrypt next to them. It opens the same cipher as chapter poneglyphs, shown only to you.
  2. Once your accuracy reaches 100%, Submit uses one poneglyph and reveals an Ancient text: a riddle of emojis with a sentence, pointing to a secret Den Den Mushi.
  3. Every ancient text you revealed stays in the list. Press View to read it again, only you can see it.
  • Players discover the ancient texts in their own order, so comparing yours with a friend’s will not show the same text at the same number.
  • Cancelling costs nothing: the poneglyph is only used when you submit the solved text.
  • A text is revealed even if you already own the Den Den Mushi it points to.
  • Once you revealed every ancient text, there is nothing left to decrypt: the poneglyphs you still hold stay in hand.
